The unique features in our garden have a unifying theme. They all utilize conservation of resources in one way or another. Permaculture centers around wise use of resources, whether it’s soil, water, building materials or sunlight.

Our cob house was built from local, sustainable materials and our green roof reduces stormwater runoff.

Our swales conserve rainwater by preventing run-off and allow more absorption into the soil.

Our shed was salvaged from Mundelein High School shop class, used window and door, topped with solar, and equipped with a rain barrel collection system to water shiitake logs.

Our hugelkulture mound conserves water in the buried wood and release water and nutrients to plants as they decompose
Our rain garden and wet prairie clean the water running off our highway lot and retain stormwater
